Trailer for Brian Wilson documentary reveals music icon’s tumultuous career

Whether they know it or not, everyone on the planet knows The Beach Boys. Whether they own the records, can sing all the classics, or know the chorus of “God Only Knows” because it’s featured in love in fact every Christmas, the surf-rock band is a universal feel-good music staple. Now, with the help of the director Brent Wilsonfans around the world can get a better look at one of the men who helped found the band whose songs would become summer classics: Brian Wilson.

Screen Media Films released the trailer for Brian Wilson: Long Promised Roadan all-new documentary starring the music icon looking back on his storied career with rolling stone magazine editor jason well. Combining archival footage and liner notes with the musician’s iconic music and personal stories from his time with one of the most commercially successful bands, the new film – an Official Selection of the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival – is a poignant journey through the tumultuous career of one of the world’s most successful musicians.

The film also features new interviews with music legends and production professionals, including Elton Jeans, bruce Springsteen, Linda Pear, pseudo Jonah, Gustav Dudameland taylor Hawkins, among others. The interviews accompany a host of classic Beach Boys tracks in the film – ranging from “Surfin’ Safari” to “Child is the Father of the Man” – plus a brand new track written and recorded by Wilson and Jim james for the movie “Right Where I Belong”.

“My partners and I set out to tell Brian’s story in a way that had never been done before. With so many books, documentaries and films already out; I knew it was an almost impossible goal. J ‘needed our film to feel personal and intimate, but not a hagiography,” director Wilson (unrelated to the icon) said in a statement. “I needed the music to be at the heart, but with so much success, I also wanted something new for the ear More importantly, Brian Wilson is such a famous icon for to be Brian Wilson as he is Brian Wilson, and I needed to bridge that gap between myth and reality… Thanks to the amazing team of people who came together for this, and for Brian’s opening, audiences will be now in the back of this car, sharing the road, hearing these stories and listening to all this good music.


Brian Wilson is executive producer on Long promised road alongside Fine and his wife Melinda Wilsonwith Brent Wilson as producer with Tim Headington and Therese Steele Page for Ley Line Entertainment, and co-producers John Sievers and Nate Kamiya.
