Music business

Japanese-American pop singer Mitski is back in the music business – The Beacon

On October 4, Mitski’s Instagram account @mitskileaks, which is managed by his management, posted a photo with the caption “link in bio.” The next day, “Working for the Knife”, one of the first songs off her new album and the announcement of her upcoming tour, was released.

Recently, on November 9, she released “The Only Heartbreaker” and it got a lot of discussion online. Some students expressed their own thoughts and opinions on his new music.

“I actually love her new stuff, of course it’s a bit different from some of the stuff she’s released in the past, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing because artists are changing and developing. their art continuously, so I’m excited to see what she’s going to do,” said Jay Guziewicz, senior psychologist and double major in English.

Kaelin Hughes, a sophomore in political science and history, is very excited about everything that is new to Mitski. She’s listened to a few songs of her own over the years here and there, but this year she fully immersed herself in her music.

“It’s exciting to be able to step into an artist while they’re still active in the industry and listen to their releases and see how they change and evolve,” Hughes said.

Mitski is a comfort artist for King’s sophomore Joe Gacek.

“His lyrics have so much meaning and they are so poetic,” Gacek said. “She’s a wonderful storyteller and performer.”

His tour will begin on February 17, 2022 in Asheville, North Carolina, and will travel across North America with support from CHAI and MICHELLE. The North American tour will conclude on March 31 in Nashville.

CHAI is a Japanese rock band from Nagoya, Japan. The group consists of Mana, Kana, Yuuki and Yuna. These four women formed CHAI in 2012.

MICHELLE is a predominantly POC and queer collective of six who formed in 2018. The originally born and raised New York group consists of Sofia D’Angelo, Julian Kaufman, Charlie Kilgore, Layla Ku, Emma Lee and Jamee Lockhard. Their genre is indie-pop.

“I can’t wait to see MICHELLE,” Hughes said. “I’ve never listened to them, but this will keep me listening and getting even more excited for the concert.”

Mitski will also be touring the UK and Europe, starting April 21 in Bristol, UK. Support for her UK and European tour will be provided by SASAMI. She is an American singer, songwriter and musician.

For Gacek and Guziewicz, they will not attend his tour. However, Gacek is looking forward to watching videos of his live performances. Hughes will, however, attend his show in Philadelphia on March 25, 2022.

“I’ve seen videos of her live and can’t wait to see this in person,” Hughes said. “I love his routines that go along with his songs. They show more emotion and expression, so I feel like I’ll be more into the experience of watching that.

His next album titled “Laurel Hell” will be released on February 4, 2022, with a total of 11 songs. Laurel Hell is named after Mountain Laurels, known for being a beautiful yet poisonous flower, which it uses as a symbol when it comes to the internet.

Of the 11 songs released, Gacek says “Stay Soft” will be one of their favorites.

“The title resonated with me when I read them all,” Gacek said. “This expression is special because it is usually used to remind a person that no matter what they have endured throughout their life, they must remain innocent and optimistic – so as not to let their trauma define them – and c It’s a nice concept for me.”

Hughes also shared what songs they think are their favorites from Mitski’s new album.

“I love music that absolutely destroys my emotions,” Hughes said. “I think either ‘Love Me More’ or ‘There’s Nothing Left For You,’ which will destroy me the most. The songs that make you feel the most emotions are the best. I just know they’ll be my favorite.

Also, Guziewicz is the most excited for “Love Me More” or “I Guess”.

“I’m a big lyrical person, so that’s very important to me,” Guziewicz said.

All in all, it looks like there’s a lot of excitement for Mitski’s return. To find more information about Mitski, follow his Instagram or visit www.mitski.com
